![]() Select the 5 objects, and in the Align and distribute dialog select the option for equal horizontal spacing. In order to get equal spacing between sides and between objects, you probably need 5 objects: 2 vertical lines with 0 stroke width on the sides of the black rectangle, plus your 3 icons. Deleting my ~/.config/inkscape directory had no effect on this behavior. You need to use the align and distribute dialog.square, circle, measure, etc.) trigger this behavior. It's not necessary to actually enter any text. It's enough to simply activate the text tool, either by clicking on the icon in the toolbox or by pressing the 'T' hotkey. So the issue isn't that inkscape as a whole stops working, just that the drawing area stops being updated. I can open a new document, activate the text tool, click somewhere on the canvas, type some text (although at this point the drawing area is frozen and I don't see anything happening), save the document, open it in another instance of inkscape, and see the text I typed.I also tried compiling the INKSCAPE_1_1 tag ( c4e8f9ed), but got compiler errors (presumably because I have the wrong version of some dependency). I experienced the same problem with both. ![]() I tried compiling inkscape from both the most recent commit ( 867ae064) and the INKSCAPE_1_2 tag ( dc2aedaf).I tried downgrading to v1.0 and v1.1, both to work-around the issue and to figure out when it started, but the downgraded binaries weren't compatible with the up-to-date dependencies installed on my system. Unfortunately I don't know which version I was upgrading from. I first observed this behavior a couple weeks ago after a system update. Some miscellaneous comments/observations: Inkscape offers several ways for creating vector images, which can, of course, be combined: using the geometric shape tools. the menu bar, the tool box, the swatch toolbar, the status bar) remain responsive. All of the GUI elements other than the drawing area (e.g. By "freeze", I mean that no further updates are made to the drawing area, and if I drag other windows over the drawing area, the pixels from those windows just get painted over the drawing area. I'm encountering an issue where the drawing area freezes upon activating the text tool.
